Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2006

Jeffrey Davies & Davies Limited is proud to announce that ‘Her Majesty The Queen has been graciously pleased to approve the Prime Minister’s recommendation that a Queen’s Award for Enterprise should be conferred on our business unit’. We are very delighted indeed to have won this accolade at the first time of applying.

Managing Director, Jeff Davies says “It proves that it is possible to have success in a market place that is extremely difficult. Good people and quality products provide a head start – energy and effort make the difference.”

“In the most recent year that this award relates to, we exported over 13,000 tonnes of pork, poultry and other meats to Europe and the Far East. This was against the background of avian flu and the other hygiene issues that beset our industry. It takes something very special from staff, suppliers and customers, without any of whom, we could not have achieved these results.”

The award in the International Trade Category reflects the achievements in meat exports over the past few years. Over the three year period used for assessing the award, the Exports of the business grew by over 65%. New markets were opened in diverse countries such as South Korea, Latvia and Hungary bringing the total number of countries served to 16.

Jeffrey Davies & Davies Limited was founded in 1977. It operates a meat processing factory approved to higher level EFSIS alongside a cold store at Dunton Green, Kent. From its main offices nearby, activities extend to a wide range of meat processing and wholesaling. With 101 employees throughout the business, annual turnover recently passed £36 million.

As Jeff Davies says “Our business began in the year of the Queen’s Jubilee, and now on her 80 th birthday, we are to receive this award. I receive it gladly and with humility, on behalf of everyone employed in the company, our customers and suppliers without whom we would not have any business at all. Our philosophy is very clear - ‘People matter most’. I take this opportunity to publicly and loudly thank all the team for their effort, loyalty, integrity and hard work in a very difficult but exciting industry.”
